Project Overview
In 2020, 1PAX participated in the design competition launched by Groupe ADP for the new SSLIA fire station at Paris–Le Bourget Airport. Conceived as a critical piece of airport infrastructure, the project addressed the architectural and functional requirements of an operational emergency facility, designed to support airport protection and ensure rapid response capabilities.
Key Challenge
The fire station needed to be highly functional, robust, and adaptable over time, while clearly expressing its role within the airport landscape. The challenge was to translate complex operational requirements—ranging from emergency response to training and administration—into a clear, efficient, and immediately readable architectural composition.
Our Approach
1PAX developed a composition of simple, clearly articulated volumes, each directly reflecting its function within the program. The fire shed was conceived as the heart of the building, accommodating emergency vehicles and rapid deployment operations. This central volume was emphasized through the use of a bright, distinctive color, ensuring instant visibility and recognition as a vital airport facility.
Supporting volumes were organized around this core: living spaces positioned at the rear for rest and readiness, a second level dedicated to administrative functions, and an independent wing allocated to training activities. This clear separation of uses ensured operational efficiency, safety, and long-term flexibility.
