A clear and robust industrial architecture supporting security, capacity, and operational visibility at a major European hub.
Value Delivered
Project Overview
In 2019, 1PAX participated in the design competition launched by Groupe ADP for the construction of a new industrial building at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, dedicated to housing a new baggage sorting system. Developed in partnership with the general contractor BRIAND and Scoping within a design-and-build framework, the project addressed critical upgrades to the airport’s baggage handling capacity and security infrastructure at the heart of the CDG hub.
Key Challenge
The building needed to accommodate complex technical systems and stringent security controls while ensuring operational clarity and seamless integration within an active airside environment. In addition to functional performance, the structure had to remain clearly legible from airside zones, including from air traffic control perspectives, and contribute positively to the airport’s architectural identity.
Our Approach
1PAX proposed a simple, refined architectural geometry that prioritizes efficiency, constructability, and visual clarity. The layout was designed to support the smooth installation and operation of the baggage sorting system while maintaining clear sightlines and a strong, recognizable presence within the airfield.
The south façade was conceived as an expressive element, integrating a green wall and a large ADP logo that acts as a signature for the building. This approach combined functional industrial architecture with a visible commitment to environmental quality and corporate identity.
