Annecy Mont-Blanc General Aviation Terminal

Reinventing a general aviation terminal through environmental excellence, conviviality, and alpine-inspired comfort.

Value Delivered

The project delivers a renewed general aviation terminal that combines environmental responsibility with a high-quality passenger experience. By achieving ambitious sustainability goals while enhancing comfort, conviviality, and architectural identity, the proposal positions Annecy Mont-Blanc Airport as a benchmark for small-scale, eco-conscious aviation facilities. The winning concession outcome confirms the strength of a design approach rooted in sustainability, place, and user well-being.

Project Overview

In 2020, 1PAX supported Vinci Airports in the winning concession proposal for the Annecy Mont-Blanc General Aviation Terminal. Serving a limited but highly specific passenger profile, the project focused on the rehabilitation and enhancement of the existing terminal, positioning it as a high-quality, sustainable gateway aligned with the values of general aviation and the exceptional alpine context of Annecy.

Key Challenge

The challenge was to significantly improve environmental performance, spatial quality, and user experience within an existing structure, while achieving a High Environmental Quality certification (Label HQE). The project needed to balance energy efficiency, comfort, and operational clarity, while reinforcing the terminal’s role as a welcoming and convivial place for passengers and visitors.

Our Approach

1PAX developed a comprehensive refit strategy centered on sustainability, comfort, and spatial clarity. The proposal enhanced façades, interiors, and surrounding outdoor areas, introducing landscaped gardens, waiting zones, and improved shared spaces. The terrace bar was rehabilitated as a key social element, extending the passenger experience outdoors and encouraging interaction. Internally, circulation was reorganized around a strengthened Main Hall, improving legibility and flow while optimizing energy performance. The design emphasized contemporary and eco-friendly solutions, with careful attention to materials, acoustics, lighting, and cleanliness. Lounges were conceived with a Switzerland-inspired aesthetic, combining wooden and glazed façades with carpeted areas to create a warm, refined atmosphere. Bio-sourced materials and integrated vegetation further reinforced the project’s sustainable and human-centered ethos.
