Reorganizing airport retail to create a coherent, attractive, and brand-aligned passenger experience.
Value Delivered
Project Overview
In 2017, 1PAX was commissioned by Aéroport de Nantes Atlantique, part of the Vinci Airports network, to develop the commercial zone of Nantes Atlantique Airport. The project addressed approximately 2,000 m² of retail space within an airport serving over 7 million passengers annually. Beyond commercial planning, the scope extended to defining a shared architectural and technical language for the terminal’s main public areas.
Key Challenge
The existing commercial areas lacked clarity, coherence, and a strong spatial identity. The challenge was to reorganize the retail offer to improve legibility and passenger flow while establishing a unified aesthetic framework capable of guiding future developments across Halls 1, 2, and 3—without disrupting ongoing airport operations.
Our Approach
1PAX developed a strategic layout for the commercial zone, optimizing visibility, circulation, and commercial performance. In parallel, the team defined an aesthetic and technical charter establishing clear guidelines for materials, lighting, signage, and architectural details. This charter was conceived as a flexible yet robust tool, ensuring consistency across different halls while allowing adaptability to evolving commercial and operational needs.
