Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport - New extension

Project Overview

Awarded through an international competition, the expansion of Terminal 1 at Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport represents a major long-term transformation of Guadeloupe’s primary aviation hub. Led by a multidisciplinary team including ENIA, 1PAX, and BM, with GUEZ and SETEC as partners, the project is being developed between 2019 and 2027 for Aéroport de Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes. Covering 23,600 m², the extension supports an airport capacity of 3 million passengers annually and forms a cornerstone of the airport’s modernization strategy.

Key Challenge
‍

The existing terminal infrastructure required a comprehensive upgrade to meet evolving security standards, growing passenger volumes, and higher expectations in terms of comfort and efficiency. The challenge was to reorganize core processing functions—check-in, security, border control, boarding, and arrivals—while maintaining continuous airport operations and embedding strong sustainability commitments within a complex tropical context.

Our Approach
‍

The project introduces a new processing area integrating enhanced security screening, immigration and emigration facilities, and an expanded duty-free zone. New boarding lounges are designed to accommodate two Code E aircraft at contact stands, significantly improving operational capacity and passenger comfort. A modern baggage reclaim hall is added, alongside a complete reconfiguration of the existing check-in area and baggage handling system to streamline flows and improve reliability.
Sustainability is embedded at every level of the design. The curbside and gate areas are fully redesigned to improve landside efficiency and passenger clarity, while photovoltaic panels installed on the terminal roof harness solar energy. Environmental monitoring and mitigation measures are incorporated to reduce the airport’s footprint and align the project with long-term sustainability objectives.
