Félix Eboué Airport - Interior Design

Shaping a bioclimatic interior that reflects local identity while enhancing comfort, orientation, and passenger well-being

Value Delivered

The interior design proposal enhanced the airport’s identity and passenger experience by creating spaces that feel open, calm, and closely connected to their natural context. By leveraging daylight, vegetation, and passive environmental strategies, the project improved comfort while supporting long-term sustainability goals. The result is an interior vision that strengthens Félix Eboué Cayenne Airport’s role as a contemporary, human-centered gateway to French Guiana.

Project Overview

In 2023, as part of its comprehensive involvement in the Félix Eboué Cayenne Airport project, 1PAX developed the interior design concept for the passenger terminal. Commissioned by EDEIS in collaboration with Ingerop, the scope covered all key public and operational spaces, including departure and arrival halls, boarding areas, commercial zones, food court, and the airport health center. The proposal sought to reinforce the terminal’s architectural coherence while creating a welcoming, climate-responsive environment rooted in the context of French Guiana.

Key Challenge

Designing interior spaces for a tropical airport required balancing passenger comfort with environmental performance. The challenge lay in creating an identity-rich interior capable of accommodating diverse functions and passenger flows, while minimizing energy demand and responding effectively to local climatic conditions such as heat, humidity, and intense sunlight.

Our Approach

1PAX developed an interior strategy grounded in sustainability and bioclimatic principles. The design emphasized the use of durable, low-impact materials, integrated vegetation, and the strategic use of natural ventilation and daylight. Particular attention was given to the canopy area, where sunlight was carefully modulated and celebrated as a spatial element, transforming circulation zones into a memorable sensory experience. The overall layout supported intuitive movement and visual continuity across the terminal.
