Structuring a robust framework for future food and beverage facilities within a major terminal extension
Value Delivered
Project Overview
In 2024, 1PAX was commissioned by Marseille Provence Airport to provide architectural assistance and consulting services for the implementation of new commercial catering facilities at Terminal 1. Working in collaboration with KAIRN Ingénierie and within the architectural vision defined by Foster + Partners as Airport Architect, the mission focused on programming, technical coordination, and strategic support for a key component of the terminal’s extension and modernization.
Key Challenge
The development of future catering facilities required a clear and anticipatory framework capable of aligning architectural intent, operational needs, and commercial performance. The challenge was to define precise technical requirements and spatial principles that could support diverse food and beverage concepts, while remaining fully compatible with the terminal’s expansion, passenger flows, and airport-wide operational constraints.
Our Approach
1PAX led a programming and consulting mission centered on the definition of technical specifications for the catering areas within Terminal 1. The team translated operational objectives into clear architectural and technical guidelines, addressing layouts, servicing requirements, interfaces with public areas, and back-of-house logistics. In parallel, 1PAX supported the preparation of tender documentation for catering operators, ensuring that future concessions would align with the airport’s quality standards, functional expectations, and long-term development strategy.
