Project Overview
In 2019, 1PAX was commissioned by Vinci Airports Serbia / Belgrade Airport to design the New Airport Administration Building (NAAB). The project comprises a five-story office building with a basement level, accommodating administrative offices and support services for airport staff. Conceived as a contemporary workplace within the airport campus, the building is organized around a landscaped courtyard that defines its main pedestrian and parking entrances.
Key Challenge
The challenge was to design a highly functional administrative building that supports diverse office activities while ensuring comfort, daylight access, and environmental performance. The project needed to balance operational efficiency with staff well-being, addressing issues of solar exposure, thermal gain, and spatial quality within a dense airport environment.
Our Approach
1PAX developed a design strategy centered on natural light, greenery, and passive environmental control. Office layouts were carefully oriented to maximize daylight while minimizing glare and overheating, supported by sunshades and external blinds protecting the glazed façades. A planted roof was introduced to reduce thermal gain and improve overall environmental performance.
At the heart of the building, a glazed roof covers an interior garden that visually and physically connects all levels. This central space brings natural light and vegetation into the core of the building, enhancing entrances, the main hall, cafeterias, and conference areas, and fostering informal interaction and well-being.
