Upgrading a strategic island gateway to support growing international traffic and improve passenger experience.
Value Delivered
Project Overview
In 2019, 1PAX supported Vinci Airports and Cabo Verde Airports in the successful concession process for Aristides Pereira International Airport, located on the island of Boa Vista. The mission extended into Phase 1B planning in 2025 and focused on defining a clear development strategy for one of Cabo Verde’s key international airports. Certified in 2017 and classified as category 4D, the airport plays a central role in the archipelago’s tourism-driven economy and international connectivity.
Key Challenge
The airport was experiencing increasing international traffic that exceeded the capacity and comfort levels of its existing facilities. The challenge was to modernize and expand the terminal while maintaining operational continuity, improving environmental performance, and upgrading technical systems essential to airport safety, comfort, and efficiency.
Our Approach
1PAX contributed to the concession technical documentation and proposed a targeted expansion and refurbishment strategy for the existing terminal building, covering approximately 4,465 m². The approach focused on increasing passenger space and improving environmental comfort through air-conditioning in public areas.
The project also addressed complementary infrastructure needs, including the planning of a dedicated cargo terminal, streamlined aircraft fueling systems, wastewater management solutions, and the integration of solar energy development. Each intervention was conceived to enhance operational performance while supporting sustainability and long-term resilience.
